Bequests

We understand what a significant decision leaving a bequest (a donation or gift of any size in your will) to DVassist is, and we sincerely appreciate you considering making this kind gesture of support. Leaving a bequest to us is a statement to your commitment to end domestic violence in regional, rural, and remote areas of Western Australia.

How will your gift help?

All funds, property, and items of value that are donated to DVassist are committed to bringing an end to family domestic violence in regional, rural and remote areas of WA. Donations will assist in expanding, maintaining, and updating the online directory service and information hub which provides a fast and efficient online tool for anyone experiencing domestic or family violence. This directory is a unique service as users can tailor the resources to their local area and specific needs.

Presently, the online directory functions across 58 key areas and is on track to have all regional areas in WA covered.

Donations have allowed for the development of a call centre to provide regional telephone counselling for those involved in family or domestic violence situations. This service offers people the opportunity to have confidential, tailored discussions with informed, qualified, and compassionate counsellors who are familiar with the additional challenges of living in regional, rural, and remote areas. As a result of generous donations, we were able to keep extending the hours of this service to provide the much needed support. Sadly, the call centre had to close in October 2022, until further funding will be secured.

DVassist also provided a live online web chat function available through our website. This third avenue of silent support gives even greater flexibility to those in need to connect with networks to assist them in making the changes to improve their family or domestic violence situation.

DVassist operates with a very small administration team to ensure that the funds received by the organisation are dedicated to delivering real change through effective support and connection.

How to leave a bequest

We welcome any donations made to DVassist by way of bequests. If you do not have a will and wish to make one, we recommend that you obtain legal advice in this regard. If you do not have a legal representative, you may wish to contact The Public Trustee in Western Australia. If you already have a will, the usual way of amending an existing will is with a codicil – a short legal amendment to your existing will stating what you wish to give to DVassist. We recommend that you obtain legal advice to ensure any will or codicil is effective.
