Broome Youth and Families Hub – Family Engagement Officers

BYFH engage two staff members to work with parents and families with young children. They provide a point of contact and a source of information for parents and expectant parents. They help promote the development of positive parent/child relationships through education, practical support and role modelling. Anglicare WA – Family and Relationship Centre

Family Relationship Centres provide assistance to families at any stage of their lives. The Centres are for all families in need of information and support in relation to family relationships and for those families who are separated we offer family dispute resolution services. The staff assist families in many ways such as:

  • Providing information about family relationships, separation and connecting people with services that are appropriate for their individual needs
  • Providing Family Dispute Resolution where parents/families can discuss issues relating to their children and develop parenting plans that are in the best interests of their children
  • Assisting parents and families to work towards improving their communication and reducing their conflict
  • Assisting parents with enhancing knowledge and skills to assist both themselves and their children with separation issues
  • Providing child-focussed and child-inclusive practices and assisting parents to focus on the needs of children

Mens Outreach Service Aboriginal Corporation (MOSAC) – Change Em Ways

The Change Em Ways (CEW) program is a federally funded Mens Behaviour Change Program which has been developed within a culturally secure, trauma informed framework for Indigenous men who have been involved in and wish to cease using family and domestic violence.

The program is premised on a number of core values:

  • Strength-based Trauma-informed Healing

The CEW program recognises the importance of partner contact during the men’s participation in the MBC process and a holistic approach being central to address and break the cycle of Indigenous Family Violence by engaging the man’s partner, family, children and community.

The Victim Support Service provides free, confidential counselling and support services for all victims of crime. These services are provided by professional counsellors and trained volunteers.

  • Preparing and supporting victims during a court case

Centacare Kimberley-Homeless Outreach Centacare

Centacare Kimberley works with community groups to give people access to services such as, health and wellbeing support, tenancy support, drug and alcohol counselling, family and men’s relationship counselling, mental health support, emergency relief, and income support.

Broome Early Learning CIRCLE (BELC)

The Broome Circle Early Learning Circle (BELC) is a registered child care provider. The service caters for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years.

Centacare Kimberley – Breakfast Program

Breakfast Program offers a free nutritional meal on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00am – 9:00am to individuals, couples and families who are facing financial hardship and/or are homeless. (Wheelchair access available)

Kimberley DFES Office – Broome

DFES works in collaboration with Western Australian communities and other government agencies to help prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from diverse hazards including fires, cyclones and floods, to name a few.

Centacare Kimberley – Emergency Relief

Centacare Kimberley is able to offer a range of supports to people on Centrelink Income Payment who are experiencing financial hardship in Broome, Kununurra and Balgo. They provide eligible people with food and clothing vouchers, and can give people access to food items and home starter packs when available.

Kimberley Employment Services – Job Active

Kimberley Employment Services can offer you:

  • Experienced local Employment Advisors who are focused on your individual needs;
  • Access to soft skills training and accredited courses;
  • Assistance to prepare a resume, motivational coaching, assistance to improve your interview skills;
  • Use of the facilities in our Broome Office including phone, fax, computers, internet, and newspapers;
  • Employment Advisors who will actively reverse market you to prospective employers;
  • Support and assistance for up 6 months after you start your job.

1800RESPECT is a national sexual assualt and domestic violence counselling service.

1800RESPECT provide support and counselling for:

  • People experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, sexual assault, domestic or family violence
  • Their friends and family
  • Workers and professionals supporting someone experiencing, or at risk of experiencing sexual assault, domestic or family violence.

They can be contacted by phone or online chat, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Suicide Call Back

Suicide Call Back Service is a nationwide service that provides professional 24/7 telephone and online counselling to people who are affected by suicide. Suicide Call Back Service services include telephone chat services, online chat and video chat.

Lifeline is a national charity providing all Australians experiencing a personal crisis with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services. They offer telephone, online chat and text support services. Telephone service are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Rurallink

Rurallink gives easy telephone access to experienced community mental health staff, with a focus on supporting people with mental health issues.

It is a confidential service that meets the needs of the community and delivering continuous care and support where needed. The service provides a single point of contact providing information, advice, assessment, and where required, referrals to other mental health services.

Meth Helpline

The Meth Helpline is a confidential, non-judgemental telephone counselling, information and referral service for anyone seeking help for their own or another person’s meth use.

eheadspace

eheadspace provides free online and telephone support and counselling to young people 12 – 25 and their families and friends. If you’re based in Australia and going through a tough time, eheadspace can help.

Alcohol and Drug Support Line

Confidential, non-judgemental telephone counselling, information and referral service for anyone seeking help for their own or another person’s alcohol or drug use.

Pets in Crisis

The Pets in Crisis program offers a temporary home for pets from households experiencing family and domestic violence while their owner seeks refuge or temporary accommodation of their own.

This helps to alleviate some of the logistical stress of removing themselves and their loved ones from a dangerous home environment.

Men’s Domestic Violence Helpline

The Men’s Domestic Violence Helpline is a state wide 24 hour service. This service provides counselling for men who are concerned about becoming violent or abusive. The service can provide:

  • telephone counselling
  • information and referral to ongoing face to face services if required

Information and support is also available for men who have experienced family and domestic violence

Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline

The Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline is a state wide 24 hour service. This service provides support and counselling for women experiencing family and domestic violence. This includes:

  • Phone counselling
  • Information and advice
  • Referral to local advocacy, support services, and safe accommodation if required
  • Support in escaping situations of family and domestic violence

Crisis Care Helpline

Crisis Care is a telephone information and counselling service for people in crisis needing urgent help. Call the Crisis Care Helpline when:

  • You need someone to help sort out a serious problem.
  • You are concerned about the wellbeing of a child.
  • You are escaping domestic violence and need help.
  • You are homeless.

Entry Point Perth

Entrypoint Perth is a free assessment and referral service assisting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Western Australia to access accommodation and support options. For individuals and families based in regional Western Australia, they can:

  • provide information on accommodation and support options to assist people to seek their own accommodation
  • assess individual circumstances of people and families experiencing domestic violence and, if eligible, provide formal referrals to crisis accommodation and support options

Communicare Breathing Space Program

Communicare Breathing Space offers a behaviour change program to men who have been abusive in their intimate partner and family relationships. Their therapeutic community provides men with up to six months of accommodation while they undertake an intensive therapeutic program including educational group work, individual counselling and case management. Group work includes:

  • Men Relating Safely (men’s behaviour change programs)
  • Understanding Anger, Aggression and Emotions
  • Dadworx (Parenting/Fathering)
  • Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) support

The program supports men to make changes in a secure and supported therapeutic setting.

Samaritans

The Samaritans is a Western Australian based not for profit organisation providing telephone counselling for all sorts of worries including:

  • Relationship or family problems
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Financial worries or job-related anxiety
  • School, college or study-related stress
  • Illness – your own or someone you care for
  • Addiction or substance abuse
  • Thoughts of suicide.

Kidshelpline

Kids Helpline is Australia’s only free, private and confidential, telephone and online counselling service specifically for young people aged between 5 and 25.

Kids Helpline counsellors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to talk to you. No problem is too big or too small to call Kids Helpline about.

Gambling Help Online

Gambling Help is support for anyone affected by gambling. Services include:

  • Free 24/7 chat and email counselling and support services
  • Professional counsellors with expertise in problem gambling and online services
  • A stepping stone for further help-seeking, including telephone and face-to-face gambling services

Qlife

QLife provides Australia-wide anonymous, LGBTI peer support and referral for people wanting to talk about a range of issues including sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships.

QLife services are free and include both telephone and webchat support, delivered by trained LGBTI community members across the country. Services are for LGBTI individuals, their friends and families, and health professionals in Australia.

Blue Knot Foundation

Blue Knot Helpline is a specialist service which support adult survivors of childhood trauma and abuse, parents, partners, family and friends as well as the professionals who work with them.

Aborginal Family Law Service

Legal help for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have experienced domestic and family violence. They not only offer free legal services, but community education and early intervention and prevention programs as well.

Legal Aid WA

Legal Aid WA offers free or low-cost legal services to the community. Legal Aid WA services include infoline and infochat.

Women’s Legal Service WA

The Women’s Legal Service WA is a free community legal centre providing legal advice, support and advocacy to WA women experiencing disadvantage. They can assist women with:

  • Family law (parenting related matters, divorce and some property settlement matters through their Legal Clinic)
  • Family violence (identifying and responding to family violence and restraining order matters)
  • Protection and care (matters involving the Department of Communities Child Protection and Family Support Division)
  • Criminal injuries compensation (where it relates to family violence, assault or sexual assault).

Services Australia – Crisis Payment

To get this you must:

  • be eligible for an income support payment from us
  • be in severe financial hardship
  • have an extreme life change. You can get it if you:
  • are experiencing family and domestic violence
  • get out after 14 days from prison or psychiatric confinement as a result of an offence
  • are a Humanitarian Entrant into Australia for the first time
  • go through a natural disaster not covered by the Disaster Recovery Payment
  • are in Australia when the event occurred, and when you submit your claim
  • are eligible for an income support payment.

Services Australia – Farm Household Allowance

A payment for farming families in financial hardship.

To get this you must:

  • be a farmer or partner of a farmer, who spends a major part of your time and capital, working on the farm
  • meet the income and assets test limits
  • meet mutual obligation requirements. To get Farm Household Allowance (FHA) you must meet all the following:
  • be a farmer or partner of a farmer
  • be 16 years or older
  • contribute labour and capital to an Australian farm, or are the partner of a farmer who does
  • have income and assets below certain amounts
  • have had less than 4 years of FHA in the specific 10-year period.

National Debt Hotline

National Debt Helpline is a not-for-profit service that helps people tackle their debt problems. Their financial counsellors offer a free, independent and confidential service.

Your Toolkit

Your Toolkit is a free comprehensive online financial toolkit that is designed to help women facing domestic and family violence and financial abuse on their journey to more independent, confident and safe lives. Their website includes information on:

  • Centrelink and myGov account and support payments
  • Tools for managing your own finances (including budgeting and saving)
  • Financial assistance for living costs
  • Understanding financial areas such tax, superannuation, credit and insurance

MoneySmart

ASIC’s MoneySmart website is for all Australians – young or old, rich or poor, investing or paying off debt.
