Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services

The alcohol and drug team at NCHS develop and implement health promotion activities that aim to reduce harm from and use of alcohol and other drugs in the Fitzroy Valley. Together, the team provide the following services:

  • Family, individual and community education and support sessions for alcohol and other drugs
  • Support for applications and existing Section 152 alcohol restrictions on houses
  • Support for communities with Section 175 restrictions, or for those communities wanting to apply
  • School education program
  • Alcohol and other drug information to communities and community groups
  • Management of the Fitzroy Valley Alcohol and Other Drugs Prevention Group
  • Health promotion events and community activities
  • FASD education and prevention

Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Service – Derby

Kimberley Mental Health & Drug Service provides specialist mental health services to the Kimberley for all age groups. The service aims to deliver a comprehensive range of high quality, community focused mental health services to residents of & visitors to the Kimberley.  KCADS provides assessment, counselling and referral and support to people who are experiencing problems as a result of their own, or someone else’s alcohol or drug use. Participation in KCADS services is voluntary.

HelpingMinds – YoungMinds

YoungMinds is a program to assist families living in the Kimberley.

The program is aimed at children 0-18 years, who are experiencing emotional difficulties in their lives or are at risk of developing mental health issues.

The service provides free, practical counselling and support for young people and families for up to 12 months, introducing coping skills and how to develop your individual strengths

Derby Youth Centre

The Derby Youth service focus is about developing opportunities for innovative, safe, youth-oriented recreation, leisure and cultural activities. They also offer help to young people with complex needs around issues such as drugs and alcohol, relationships, mental health and abuse. Youth workers can respond to individual crises and offer referral to relevant services.

The Youth Centre offers a comprehensive school holiday program as well as structured activities during term time such as sporting competitions, arts and crafts, music and healthy eating. The centre is equipped with a kitchen, skate park, basketball court, computers, pool table, table tennis table and video games.

Derby Aboriginal Health Service – Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team

The DAHS Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team provides services that help individuals develop and maintain positive thoughts, behaviours and relationships. This is achieved through a strengths based approach in a person centred environment.

SEWB are a team of health professionals that are dedicated to providing culturally sensitive services for the people of Derby and surrounding Aboriginal communities. Staff are able to help with a wide range of emotional problems including, but not limited to; depression, anxiety, anger, grief, sadness and worry. Services are for all age groups from youth to older members of our community.

Regional Australia Institute – Rural Health Connect

Rural Health Connect is a website and app that links people in rural Australia to psychologists via video conferencing technology. Their site allows people to conduct sessions with psychologists from the privacy of their own home with no travel or wait time and no stigma.

Here for You

A state-wide, confidential, non-judgemental, telephone service giving a single point of contact for anyone concerned about their own or another person’s alcohol and other drug use and/or mental health issues.  Contact is one-to-one with a qualified counsellor or professional peer practitioner based in WA. Peer practitioners have a lived experience of alcohol and other drug use and/or mental health issues and recovery and are trained to use their experiences to support individuals living with similar issues.
