Desert Blue Connect – Chrysalis House

Chrysalis House Women’s Refuge provides safe and supported accommodation for women with or without children who are escaping family violence or are at risk of being homeless as a result of the crisis.

Services include:

  • Safe, secure crisis accommodation for up to three weeks
  • Development of safety plans
  • Practical and emotional assistance and support
  • Outreach support services
  • Information and advocacy
  • Referrals to other agencies
  • Links to housing, income, legal and medical services
Chrysalis House also provides services for children. A child support worker works with children to reduce the harmful effects of family violence, including the availability of crèche services. Chrysalis House can accommodate children and youth up to the age of 18 years with appropriate recreation activities available.

Communicare – Connect and Respect

Connect and Respect is a behaviour change program, specifically working with men and women who have been charged with family and domestic violence offences, against a partner, child or family member.
 
Connect and Respect is dedicated to improving the safety of women, children and men within the Western Australian community. They work directly with the individuals who have been charged with acts of abuse and violence, and seek to engage with and support those who have been impacted. 
 
Program Aims:
• Building people’s awareness of relationship violence and the significant impacts the trauma caused by this behaviour has across generations.
• Building people’s skills and efficacy to regulate their emotions and be present regardless of circumstance, enabling improved decision making.
• Building people’s capacity to hold themselves to account for their behaviour.

Confidential and individual counselling services for a variety of issues including:

Counselling is available on Wednesdays and is available to women at a reduced fee.

Careers for Women is about assisting women with their career options. The program is part of Joblink Midwest’s Jobs & Skills Centre Services and focuses on the needs of all women over the age of 18 who may be:
  • Wanting to return to the workforce
  • Looking at changing their career
  • Aiming to start work for the first time
Careers for Women is a flexible, streamlined service exploring career options for women in a supportive environment. The service is available face to face or online. Our Careers for Women team can assist with:

Desert Blue Connect – General Nurse Consults

This service includes pregnancy tests, sexually transmitted infection (STI) tests, breast health, continence information, relationship/sexual health, menopause advice, and mental health support (including perinatal) services and referral.
Clients are required to bring their Medicare card with them for STI testing appointments.
If you don’t have a Medicare card you are still welcome to attend these clinics but charges may apply for any pathology.  Please call reception to obtain costs.

Midwest Population Health Services – Community Health

Community Health services promote healthy outcomes for infants, young children and their families through a comprehensive approach in collaboration with parents/carers. Community Health nurses complete health checks and assessments of children’s physical, developmental, social and emotional needs and enable access to timely and appropriate interventions and supports.
 
Groups at risk of poorer health outcomes are of particular focus. Universal services include developmental assessments from birth to school entry at the key ages of 0-14 days, 8 weeks, 4 months, 12 months, 2 years and starting school. Included in the schedule is:
 
• Physical and developmental assessments which review child health, development and behaviour
•Psychosocial assessments including community and family networks and supports
• Information regarding parenting and development of parenting groups
• Maternal health and wellbeing including assessment for post-natal depression
• Child safety including safe sleeping
• Immunisation
• Breastfeeding and nutrition

Desert Blue Connect provides free or low cost community health promotion, women’s health education and information, and in-school support to teachers with sexuality and relationship education.
 
Services we offer include:
• Women’s health seminars
• Healthy lifestyle programs
• Well-being sessions for professional development days
• Mental health workshops (i.e. anxiety management)
• In-school support for teachers and resources with sexual health education
• Support or self-help groups

This service offers support to Aboriginal women who have experienced family violence and their partners or ex-partners, who have been referred to the Barndimalgu Court. Service is by direct referral from Court.

State and National Women's Support Services Services

Qlife

QLife provides Australia-wide anonymous, LGBTI peer support and referral for people wanting to talk about a range of issues including sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships.

QLife services are free and include both telephone and webchat support, delivered by trained LGBTI community members across the country. Services are for LGBTI individuals, their friends and families, and health professionals in Australia.

Women’s Legal Service WA

The Women’s Legal Service WA is a free community legal centre providing legal advice, support and advocacy to WA women experiencing disadvantage. They can assist women with:

  • Family law (parenting related matters, divorce and some property settlement matters through their Legal Clinic)
  • Family violence (identifying and responding to family violence and restraining order matters)
  • Protection and care (matters involving the Department of Communities Child Protection and Family Support Division)
  • Criminal injuries compensation (where it relates to family violence, assault or sexual assault).

1800RESPECT is a national sexual assualt and domestic violence counselling service.

1800RESPECT provide support and counselling for:

  • People experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, sexual assault, domestic or family violence
  • Their friends and family
  • Workers and professionals supporting someone experiencing, or at risk of experiencing sexual assault, domestic or family violence.

They can be contacted by phone or online chat, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

WESNET – Safe Connections

The Safe Connections program provides tech-abuse advice to women who are experiencing technology-facilitated abuse as well as being able to provide women (and children) affected by domestic, family or sexual violence with a free Safe Connections phones and top-up credit (eligible clients can top-up 3 times in the financial year).

They also provide tech-abuse advice where they can organise appointments with one of our tech experts.
