PCYC – Kalgoorlie

Kalgoorlie PCYC exists so that disadvantaged children and young people at risk in the Kalgoorlie area have a safe place to go – somewhere they can feel at home, make friends and do things that young people should do.
The Centres programs are committed to supporting young people in the community by assisting with school participation, providing a safe place for young people to ‘hang out’ and by providing a number of activities in order to deter youth crime.

Goldfields YMCA

The program aims to connect with children and young people to assist with improving their attendance at school.  
On the early childhood side, this program aims to improve young people’s school readiness, the level of parenting support they’re receiving, as well as their engagement, community engagement and access to readily available information.
Building Brighter Futures runs in two parts; the youth engagement side is run directly at the school for school-aged children, throughout regular school hours. The early years workshops are open to all parents with children aged 0-5, and these workshops are run in partnership with local organisations at varying locations.

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available from within the library for Wi-Fi enabled devices. They have 20 computers for public use and access is free.
Printing and photocopying services are available in both colour and black/white.

Centrecare – Men’s Domestic Violence Helpline/ Groups (Choosing Respect)

A Centrecare service for men who are concerned about the affects of their behaviour on the people they love, work and spend time with.
Centrecare provides a range of individual counselling and group programs, specifically designed for men who are engaging in abusive behaviours but have chosen to explore more respectful ways of relating. Services are also available for partners and children. Abuse in a relationship, also called family and domestic violence, refers to any action, verbal and/or non-verbal, that instills fear in the other person and can be displayed physically, emotionally, verbally, sexually, financially, spiritually and culturally.
Centrecare counselling and group programs for men provide a unique and safe opportunity for men to address their concerns in a respectful and non-judgmental environment. It also seeks to support men in their ability to build healthy relationships for the future and be accountable for the past.

Hope Community Services – Street Vans

Street Vans provide a healthy, safe environment where young people are welcome to engage – there are games, crafts, music, fun, and cool drinks in the summer, and blankets and beanies in the winter.
Staff and volunteers at Street Vans provide information about misuse of alcohol and other drugs, emphasising ways to minimise harm, including safer using, reducing use, and not using at all.
Other subjects include mental health, physical health, including sexual health, support and referrals, and healthy activities such as arts and crafts, basketball, volley ball and badminton.

YMCA – Goldfields Before and After School Care

Children can play, relax and even finish their homework in the safety of the YMCA’s before and after school care centres.

Supporting families and their children in a fun and stimulating environment is all part of our before and after school care that caters for children in Kindergarten through to the age of 12.

Your children will be cared for in an environment where we take responsibility in helping school-aged children meet their emotional and educational needs.

They will hang out with their friends and meet new friends which will help develop the social skills that come from sharing a meal together or playing a game.

YMCA – Aspire

A free health, lifestyle and engagement program for 13 – 17 year old girls, which addresses key issues girls in that age bracket encounter in daily life (e.g. body image issues, nutrition, peer pressure etc). At the end of this program they do a ‘Heal Pamper Workshop’ where we get a whole range of providers come through and volunteer their time to do the girls’ nails, beauty, massage, hair – the whole works! It’s a celebration day for young girls as well as a chance to gain access to providers in the local community and assisting with obtaining new networking and support options

Victim Support and Child Witness Service – Kalgoorlie

The Victim Support Service provides free, confidential counselling and support services for all victims of crime. These services are provided by professional counsellors and trained volunteers.
Services available to victims of crime include:

  • Counselling and support
  • Providing information and referrals to other support services
  • Helping victims write a victim impact statement
  • Preparing and supporting victims during a court case
  • Helping victims obtain information on the status of police investigations
  • Providing support when making an application for a restraining order
  • Providing information about criminal injuries compensation
  • Helping victims understand their rights within the criminal justice system
  • Providing information on the status of convicted offenders in WA, through the Victim Notification Register.

The Child Witness Service is a voluntary and free service available to children under 18 years of age who are to give evidence to a court. Trained staff can assist with:

  • Accessing services such as counselling, police, legal, medical and other relevant services
  • Working with the WA Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions and providing the child with up to date information as a matter progresses through the court system
  • Preparing a child for giving evidence in court and providing in court support
  • Helping a child to prepare a victim impact statement.
