East Kimberley Job Pathways

East Kimberley Job Pathways (EKJP) is a partnership venture between Wunan Foundation and East Kimberley CDEP. EKJP delivers the Remote Jobs and Communities Program (RJCP) across the East Kimberley, to provide local community members with a path to employment, establish independence, and secure a better life for their families. RJCP is a case management model, tailoring services to individual needs. This may include direct employment, training and skills development and career guidance; all designed to meet the aspirations and objectives of the client. Additionally, job seekers may take part in activities in their community to learn new skills and deliver worthwhile benefits to the community, while developing positive social norms in preparation for working life

Kununurra Jobs and Skills Centres

Based at North Regional TAFE campuses, the Jobs and Skills Centres offer a range of services by qualified career advisors to support individuals to find employment and develop their careers further. These services include job application support, career development advice, pathways towards obtaining professional training and other employability skills. In addition to the towns of Kununurra and Brooms, the Jobs and Skills Centres also provide outreach services to smaller towns and communities throughout the region.

Wunan Foundation – Career Advice Service

A career advice service, with offices in Kununurra and Broome, the Career Centres provide a range of career development services to individuals and/or groups (including schools). This is done either face to face or from a distance using help-lines and web-based services. The Centres’ qualified staff can assist individuals in exploring areas of career interest, required training and skills and assist participants to plan towards a future career, including information relating to labour market requirements across Western Australia.

Kununurra Waringarri Aborginal Corporation – Strong Men, Strong Families

The Strong Men, Strong Families program delivered by KWAC and funded by the ‘Healing Foundation”, explores ways to strengthen the role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men within their families and community with Information sessions and interactive workshops which include:

  • Goal setting
  • Roles
  • Responsibilities and Leadership
  • Anger management
  • Domestic Violence Education
  • Drug and Alcohol education
  • Connection back to culture
  • Job Ready Program

The program provides support, and advocacy, and will work closely with Aboriginal men to assist them in dealing with local services, including resolving matters with Housing, Centrelink and other local service providers.

Financial Counselling:

How can KCLS help?

  • Complete a budget with you;
  • Contact other services and agencies to confirm your bills and debts;
  • Call Horizon Power if you are struggling to pay your power bill, and you want Horizon Power to approve you for a government payment towards your bill: the Hardship Utilities Grant Scheme (HUGS);
  • Apply for some of your debts to be forgiven because of your hardship; and
  • Deal with debt collectors.

KGT Employment runs diverse pre-employment programs targeted at disadvantaged people to gain core skills leading to increased opportunities, such as apprenticeships, traineeships, or employment.
The objectives of the Pre-employment Training Programs are to provide:

  • training activities leading to or directly linking to employment
  • training to increase the employability skills of people from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • training to encourage participants to undertake further VET training and skill development.
