Below is a list of mental health support services, including youth mental health support, community mental health programs, mental health organisations, hospital mental health services and mental health education programs. If you cannot find local mental health support services for your area, there is a list of state and national mental health support services at the bottom of this page, including those offering counselling and referral services.

Kununurra Waringarri Aborginal Corporation – Suicide Prevention program

Through the Suicide Prevention program KWAC will be holding regular activities to promote community healing:

  • Back to Country healing trips
  • Partnering with Gawooleng Yawoodeng in their Strong Women’s group
  • Work with community to explore language and concepts surrounding suicide, drugs and alcohol
  • Connect elders and young people to promote the connection to country and culture.

Social and emotional wellbeing is a term used to describe the social, emotional, spiritual, and cultural wellbeing of a person. It recognises that connection to land, culture, spirituality, family, and community are important to people and can impact on their wellbeing. It also recognises that a person’s social and emotional wellbeing is influenced by policies and past events. The SEWB team offers assistance in the form of:

  • Men and Women Yarning
  • Brief intervention
  • Back to Country Healing
  • Deadly Thinking Workshop which is for Aboriginal communities to help in the prevention of suicide, providing the tools to confront core issues
  • Domestic Violence

Kununurra Primary Health Centre

The Kununurra Primary Health Centre provides a one-stop-shop health care hub for the East Kimberley community enabling more people in the region to access the care they need closer to home with fewer people requiring to travel to other major towns, including Perth, for treatment.

Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Service (KMHDS) – Kununurra

KMHDS provides specialist mental health services to the Kimberley for all age groups. The service aims to deliver a comprehensive range of high quality, community focused mental health services to residents of & visitors to the Kimberley. KCADS provides assessment, counselling and referral and support to people who are experiencing problems as a result of their own, or someone else’s alcohol or drug use. Participation in KCADS services is voluntary.

HelpingMinds – YoungMinds

YoungMinds is a program to assist families living in the Kimberley.

The program is aimed at children 0-18 years, who are experiencing emotional difficulties in their lives or are at risk of developing mental health issues.

The service provides free, practical counselling and support for young people and families for up to 12 months, introducing coping skills and how to develop your individual strengths

Boab Health – ABLe

The ABLe program aims to improve the independence, participation and long-term lifetime wellbeing of people living in Wyndham who are affected by mental health issues, which includes issues with drug and alcohol misuse and/or gambling. This program includes building personal resilience and supporting participants to sustainably manage the impacts of their mental health issues. This program is open to people living in Wyndham, who are aged 16 to 65 years.

Anglicare WA – StandBy Suicide Response

StandBy is for people, families and communities who have lost loved ones, friends or colleagues to suicide. StandBy can help people bereaved recently as well as providing support to people and communities affected by suicide in the past. The service has established a reference group and inter-agency partnerships.

Regional Australia Institute – Rural Health Connect

Rural Health Connect is a website and app that links people in rural Australia to psychologists via video conferencing technology. Their site allows people to conduct sessions with psychologists from the privacy of their own home with no travel or wait time and no stigma.

OzHelp is here to help and you are not alone. Their support services are always confidential and they are here to discuss anything that is troubling you.

The Samaritans provides telephone counselling for all sorts of worries so that you can feel completely comfortable in sharing what you are going through.
