Below is a list of women’s support services, including women’s health care centres, family planning services, women’s refuges/ homeless shelters, women’s support groups, women’s education programs and government departments. If you cannot find local women’s support services for your area, there is a list of state and national women’s support services at the bottom of this page, including those offering counselling and referral services.

Share and Care Community Services – Jacaranda House

This program is designed to assist women and children who are homeless.

The program works with the client base towards obtaining and maintaining housing into the future.

Whilst in Jacaranda House, based in Northam, women are offered education, information and support.

This service covers the Wheatbelt.

Share and Care Community Services – Safe at Home

Safe at Home provides specialist workers to assess safety and support the needs of women and children to remain in their homes, where it is safe to do so after a Family and Domestic Violence incident or ongoing violence in the home.

Once a referral or WAPOL incident report is provided this service completes a comprehensive risk and safety assessment, security audit and planning to allow women to make an informed decision in relation to remaining in their home or to accessing crisis accommodation should the situation be unsafe. The service also provides links into other agencies. The service has the ability to access limited funds to provide increased safety at the home.

The Safe at Home staff will also assist with support to apply for a Family Violence Restraining Order and offer support during the court process. Outreach support is available across the Wheatbelt to ensure ongoing support.

State and National Women's Support Services

1800RESPECT

1800RESPECT is a national sexual assualt and domestic violence counselling service.

1800RESPECT provide support and counselling for:

  • People experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, sexual assault, domestic or family violence
  • Their friends and family
  • Workers and professionals supporting someone experiencing, or at risk of experiencing sexual assault, domestic or family violence.

They can be contacted by phone or online chat, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Suicide Call Back

Suicide Call Back Service is a nationwide service that provides professional 24/7 telephone and online counselling to people who are affected by suicide. Suicide Call Back Service services include telephone chat services, online chat and video chat.

Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline

The Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline is a state wide 24 hour service. This service provides support and counselling for women experiencing family and domestic violence. This includes:

  • Phone counselling
  • Information and advice
  • Referral to local advocacy, support services, and safe accommodation if required
  • Support in escaping situations of family and domestic violence

Qlife

QLife provides Australia-wide anonymous, LGBTI peer support and referral for people wanting to talk about a range of issues including sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships.

QLife services are free and include both telephone and webchat support, delivered by trained LGBTI community members across the country. Services are for LGBTI individuals, their friends and families, and health professionals in Australia.

Women’s Legal Service WA

The Women’s Legal Service WA is a free community legal centre providing legal advice, support and advocacy to WA women experiencing disadvantage. They can assist women with:

  • Family law (parenting related matters, divorce and some property settlement matters through their Legal Clinic)
  • Family violence (identifying and responding to family violence and restraining order matters)
  • Protection and care (matters involving the Department of Communities Child Protection and Family Support Division)
  • Criminal injuries compensation (where it relates to family violence, assault or sexual assault).

Your Toolkit

Your Toolkit is a free comprehensive online financial toolkit that is designed to help women facing domestic and family violence and financial abuse on their journey to more independent, confident and safe lives. Their website includes information on:

  • Centrelink and myGov account and support payments
  • Tools for managing your own finances (including budgeting and saving)
  • Financial assistance for living costs
  • Understanding financial areas such tax, superannuation, credit and insurance

WESNET – Safe Connections

The Safe Connections program provides tech-abuse advice to women who are experiencing technology-facilitated abuse as well as being able to provide women (and children) affected by domestic, family or sexual violence with a free Safe Connections phones and top-up credit (eligible clients can top-up 3 times in the financial year).

They also provide tech-abuse advice where they can organise appointments with one of our tech experts.

DVassist Telephone Counselling Service

The DVassist counselling service is available Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 7 pm, via free call 1800 080 083 to anyone living in remote, regional, and rural Western Australia. We provide information and support for women, men and young people living in remote, regional, and rural Western Australia experiencing family and domestic violence.
