DVassist is committed to reducing the impact and prevalence of family and domestic violence in regional, rural, and remote communities across Western Australia through a combination of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention initiatives.
Why Community Matters
The impacts of family and domestic violence in regional, rural, and remote areas are often broad and far-reaching, compounded by factors such as geographic isolation, limited access to services, and close-knit community dynamics. These challenges affect not only individuals and families but also the overall health and well-being of entire communities.
At DVassist, we work in partnership with local communities to:
- Respond to family and domestic violence in ways that are culturally safe and locally informed
- Identify and address service gaps
- Strengthen local capacity to prevent violence and support recovery
Our approach is collaborative, community-led, and grounded in cultural safety. We partner with a wide network of organisations across Western Australia to deliver prevention and early intervention strategies tailored to the unique strengths and needs of each community.
Our Primary Prevention Activities
DVassist actively engages in community-based and sector-led prevention initiatives designed to reduce the prevalence of family and domestic violence and stop violence before it starts.
These efforts include:
- Awareness campaigns and community education
- Participation in local and regional networks and working groups
- Collaboration with schools, health services, and community organisations
- Support for community-led prevention strategies and planning
