Centacare Kimberley – Family Support

Intensive Family Support Service

Is a partnership between Australian Childhood Foundation, Centacare Kimberley and Derby Aboriginal Health Services, who have put together a team of local Family Support Workers with the role of offering support to families living in Broome and Derby who are at risk of having their children placed in state care. The focus of this program is on helping families to stay together by working with the family to create a safe, supportive and nurturing home environment. This program also works with families who are participating in the reunification of a child.

Family Care Support Service

Is another partnership program between Australian Childhood Foundation, Centacare Kimberley and Derby Aboriginal Health Services, that has been developed to offer support to families living in Broome and Derby who are looking after a family member in state care, through a Kinship Care Arrangement. This could be a young person living with an aunty, uncle, a grandparent, or even an older brother or sister. It is a program that can provide practical supports, access to other specialist supports, as well as parenting and child development advice, parenting skills development and knowledge.

 

Baya Gawiy – Child & Parent Centre (CPC)

The Child and Parent Centre (CPC) works to improve access to health and education for Fitzroy Valley families targeting children aged 0–8 years and their families. It is a welcoming, safe & dynamic space that delivers programs to meet the changing needs of vulnerable families.

Share and Care Community Services – Family and Domestic Violence Child Support

A trained child support worker is on site and will relieve the parent of care if she needs to attend appointments.

The support may include outings with the parents’ permission, liaison with schools for enrolments, play therapy, referrals for mother and or child to a host of other agencies that may assist with the variety of needs the consumer presents with.

These services cover the Wheatbelt and Upper Great Southern, and based in Northam and Narrogin.

Yaadina – Family Support

The Service provides holistic support services to families through a range of workshops and community opportunities to assist them to develop life skills, reduce social isolation and provide practical assistance and referral to other services when required. Practical support includes attending meetings with clients, letter writing, advocacy, literacy numeracy programs and emergency relief. Workshops provide crèche facilities and focus on life skills, craft work and parenting programs eg: cooking, storytelling, fun play with children.

Centacare Kalgoorlie – Family Dispute Resolution

Centrecare Family Dispute Resolution focuses on children. They also assist couples and families communicate effectively and reach agreements in relation to the needs of children and/or resolve property matters. Separation can be a difficult time for families, particularly for children. The Family Law requires parents to attempt to resolve issues related to their children through Family Dispute Resolution (or a similar service) before being able to initiate proceedings in the Family Court.

Anglicare WA – Child Sexual Abuse Therapy Service

The Child Sexual Abuse Therapy Service aims to reduce the devastating effects of sexual abuse on children through counselling and support, providing them with strategies that enable them to be safe and establish non-abusive relationships in their future.

The service assists children to manage trauma and educates them about social skills and strategies that enable them to be safe and establish non-abusive relationships. It also teaches parents to recognise the symptoms and effects of sexual abuse against children and how to provide support for their child’s healing.

Counselling is available for children and their non-offending family members. This includes:

  • Children up to the age of 18 who have suffered sexual abuse
  • Children up to the age of 18 who are exhibiting sexualised behaviours
  • Children up to the age of 18 who have committed sexual abuse against others
  • Non-offending siblings and carers who have been affected by the sexual abuse or behaviour of a child who has been referred to the service

Desert Blue Connect – Children’s Counselling Services

The free Children’s Counselling Service at Desert Blue Connect supports both the parents/caregivers and children. They provide consultation and counselling for parents who are concerned about their children. This may be parents who know or suspect that their children have experienced child sexual assault, or those who want to support their children who have been exposed to or experienced family violence. A Child Counsellor will support you with tools and advice for better dealing with daily life challenges.

MacKillop Family Services – South West Emergency Care for Children

South West Emergency Care for Children supports families with children up to 11 years of age within their own home when the family may be experiencing a crisis.

Services may include:

  • In-home child-care
  • Transport to school or day-care
  • Helping prepare meals for the children
  • Washing/bathing the children
  • Additional practical support as determined upon assessment

Frontier Services

The Frontier Services Bush Chaplains provide practical, pastoral and spiritual support to those in need, visiting people on properties for a cuppa and a chat. They lend a sympathetic ear and can refer people to other service providers as appropriate.

Pregnancy Problem House specializes in helping women and couples find solutions. They offer non-judgmental understanding, accurate information, and personalised care.
