Child Witness Service Kununurra

The Child Witness Service helps children and young people under 18 years of age who may need to give evidence in court. The children involved can be victims or witnesses to any criminal charge, in any court.
The Child Witness Service provides practical information and helps children and young people emotionally prepare for court. Support is provided on an individual basis. Evidence is never discussed.
The Child Witness Service does not provide counselling. However, referrals can be made to appropriate agencies when additional support is required.
The Child Witness Service aims to:
reduce trauma for children giving evidence in court by appropriate preparation and support.
Undertake assessments of a child’s needs in relation to giving evidence and advocate for the child to receive their entitlements under the legislation.
work with the WA Police Force and the Director of Public Prosecutions to ensure a child witness and their family are kept fully informed about the progress of a case through the courts
help a child witness prepare a victim impact statement, even if the child is not required to give evidence

Southern Aboriginal Corporation – Family Violence Prevention Service (FVPLS)

Southern Aboriginal Corporation works collaboratively with other service providers to deliver culturally appropriate free, accessible, equitable, efficient and effective legal assistance casework, counselling and court support to Aboriginal adults and children who are victims/survivors of family violence, including sexual assault/abuse, or who are at immediate risk of such violence. This also includes provision of advocacy, community legal education and early intervention and prevention activities.

Aboriginal Family Legal Services – Kununurra

The AFLS provides legal and community education services for all Aboriginal people who have experienced family and domestic violence or sexual assault, including men, women and children.

Legal Aid WA – Senior Rights and Advocacy Service

The Senior Rights and Advocacy Service is a specialist legal advice and assistance service, as a division of Legal Aid WA.
Services offered include: 
• Legal advice and assistance in areas such as elder abuse, planning for the future, guardianship and administration, and issues involving grandchildren 
• representation in certain guardianship and administration matter with State Administrative Tribunal 
• Mediation and dispute resolution
• information and community legal education 
• Referrals to community and government agencies

Pilbara Community Legal Service – Community Migrant Services

The Community Migrant Service is located in Karratha and South Hedland and facilitates pathways to learning English, education and employment readiness. Service coordination and delivery include, but are not limited to, group information sessions teaching life skills and providing information on different issues such as the health system, employment, police and the law and banking practices

Pilbara Community Legal Service – Domestic Violence Advocacy & Victim Support Roebourne

DVAVSS provides information, support, referrals and assistance in a secure and confidential setting where you are safe to tell your story. The service acts as an important tool to help overcome trauma, recover and rebuild life after abuse. DVAVSS provides assistance with:
 
• Providing information to clients about their rights, options, and the community resources available for them
• Safety planning- various strategies are discussed so a client can decide for themselves what strategies to use to reduce their future risk of abuse
• Violence Restraining Order applications
• Encouragement, empathy and respect with a non-judgmental approach and culturally sensitive support.
• Informal counselling can be through crisis intervention or casual conversation.
 
DVAVSS works closely with WA Police, Child Protection and Family Support, Family and Domestic Violence Response Team, Women’s Refuge, Safe House and the DV Lawyer at PCLS. By building a good relationship with other services, DVAVSS is able to provide a client centred service and address client needs by referring them for appropriate support.

Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia – Kalgoorlie

The Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia (Inc.) (ALSWA) provides legal representation and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Western Australia, including advocating in policy and law reform in submissions, at conferences and in the media.
ALSWA is governed by a Board of Directors who are all Aboriginal.

Youth Legal Service

Youth Legal Service is a not-for-profit organisation providing free legal services to children and young people (under 25 years of age) across Western Australia. 
 
Youth Legal Service provides legal advice in the following areas:
 
• Criminal Matters – legal advice on all criminal matters and traffic offences
• Motor Vehicle Accidents – legal advice and casework to establish liability and negotiate with insurers or claimants
• Contract Law – legal advice on establishing the capacity to contract, contractual obligations and unconscionable contracts
• Leaving Home – advice on legal rights and responsibilities and accessing personal belongings and papers
