Holyoake: Court Diversion Programs

Specialised Court Diversion Officers attend court in Northam, Narrogin, and Moora. They support people who may wish to participate in programs such as the Pre-sentence Opportunity Program (POP), Supervised Treatment Intervention Regime (STIR) and Young Persons Opportunity Program (YPOP).

Legal Aid Gascoyne Duty Lawyers

The Midwest and Gascoyne Regional Office provides a duty lawyer for criminal matters in the Magistrates Court and Children’s Court in Carnarvon and circuits to the following towns:

  • Exmouth;
  • Onslow;
  • Shark Bay;
  • Tom Price.

Gascoyne Community Legal Centre

Assists those living in the Gascoyne region with generalist legal information. They provide free legal information and advice covering most aspects of the law. They can help with preparing documents; liaising with others involved in your issue; and assist with understanding legal concepts. 
They travel to Exmouth and Denham regularly.

Aboriginal Family Legal Services – Carnarvon

The Aboriginal Family Law Services can assist people with their family law matters when there are children involved. They will represent clients in the Family Court WA, however much of their work involves helping clients to work out parenting agreements. Here are some things they can help with:

  • Assistance in child matters;
  • Negotiating parenting arrangements;
  • Family Court applications;
  • Recovery Orders;
  • Parenting Arrangements;
  • Contested & Consent Orders;
  • Advice for grandparents and other family rights.

The Carnarvon office also services Burringurrah, Exmouth, Shark Bay and Onslow.

Local Support Coordinator

The Local Support Coordinator provides co-ordinated response and proactive outreach to women experiencing family violence in the Murchison region for a period of up to 18 months. Assistance for people in Carnarvon is available during 6 weekly visits to homes for issues including:

  • Risk assessment and safety planning;
  • Safety audits;
  • Applying for a family violence restraining order;
  • Court support;
  • Referrals to housing, financial, legal or other organisations.

Victim Support and Child Witness Service

The Victim Support and Child Witness Service provides both the Victim Support Service and the Child Witness Service and is situated in regional Magistrates Court of Western Australia locations. The Victim support and Child Witness Service provides a voluntary and free service assisting:

  • Victims of crime;
  • Secondary victims of crime related death; and
  • Children under the age of 18 years of age who are to give evidence.
Services available include:
  • Counselling and support;
  • Accessing services such as counselling, legal, medical and other relevant services;
  • Information on the status of police investigations;
  • Information about ongoing court matters and preparing for court and in court support;
  • Preparing a child for giving evidence in court and providing in court support;
  • Help to write a victim impact statement;
  • Help with enquiries about your rights in the criminal justice system, including criminal injuries compensation claims.
