Waratah – Family Abuse Intevention Service

The service provides free, specialised counselling, support, advocacy and therapeutic intervention for women aged sixteen years and over who are in circumstances where violence has occurred or is likely to occur in an intimate or familial relationship.

Women can access the service by either self-referring, by having another agency refer them, or by being referred by Department for Child Protection and Family Support.

Victim Support Service and Child Witness Service Kununurra

The Victim Support Service provides free, confidential counselling and support services for all victims of crime. These services are provided by professional counsellors and trained volunteers. Services available to victims of crime include:

  • Counselling and Support
  • Providing information and referrals to other support services
  • Helping victims write a victim impact statement
  • Preparing and supporting victims during a court case
  • Helping victims obtain information on the status of police investigations
  • Providing support when making an application for a restraining order
  • Providing information about criminal injuries compensation
  • Helping victims understand their rights within the criminal justice system
  • Providing information on the status of convicted offenders in WA, through the Victim Notification Register

The Child Witness Service is a voluntary and free service available to children under 18 years of age who are to give evidence to a court. Trained staff can assist with:

  • Accessing services such as counselling, police, legal, medical and other relevant services
  • Working with the WA Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions and providing the child with up to date information as a matter progresses through the court system
  • Preparing a child for giving evidence in court and providing in court support
  • Helping a child to prepare a victim impact statement.

The Birdcage is a Ladies social group that uses the Albany Menshed for a wide range of activities including Arts and Crafts.

The Birdcage is where members can meet, enjoy a Tea of Coffee, share experiences, participate in an activity or just have a chat in a friendly and safe environment.

South West Women’s Health & Information Centre – Counselling

The South-West Women’s Health and Information Centre counselling service enables women to seek solutions in an understanding and supportive environment. Information and advice is available on all aspects of women’s health for free. Make an appointment to see a qualified nurse.

They provide telephone, one to one or community education on women’s health topics. They are also able to do pregnancy testing and offer follow up support. Free pap smears for Medicare card holders. Female counsellor available at service for free.

The #Pinkbox Dignity Vending Machine is a vending machine that dispenses FREE packs of six tampons and two pads to those in need. Share the Dignity supply the period products in the vending machine, install the machine and keep it supplied with free products with the help of our incredible volunteers.

Share and Care Community Services – Jacaranda House

This program is designed to assist women and children who are homeless.

The program works with the client base towards obtaining and maintaining housing into the future.

Whilst in Jacaranda House, based in Northam, women are offered education, information and support.

This service covers the Wheatbelt.

Share and Care Community Services – Safe at Home

Safe at Home provides specialist workers to assess safety and support the needs of women and children to remain in their homes, where it is safe to do so after a Family and Domestic Violence incident or ongoing violence in the home.

Once a referral or WAPOL incident report is provided this service completes a comprehensive risk and safety assessment, security audit and planning to allow women to make an informed decision in relation to remaining in their home or to accessing crisis accommodation should the situation be unsafe. The service also provides links into other agencies. The service has the ability to access limited funds to provide increased safety at the home.

The Safe at Home staff will also assist with support to apply for a Family Violence Restraining Order and offer support during the court process. Outreach support is available across the Wheatbelt including Shire of Yilgarn to ensure ongoing support.
