Who is this training for?

This training is designed to assist staff working with clients experiencing family and domestic violence (FDV) in recognising a crisis and implementing an appropriate crisis intervention response. It covers communication and active listening skills that are critical to support clients in crisis. Participants will learn to apply trauma-informed principles to their responses and support when working alongside clients in crisis.  A six-step crisis intervention model is introduced that FDV staff can employ when assisting clients through their crisis situation.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session(s), participants will be able to:

  • Define a crisis, crisis intervention, and recognise crisis precipitators
  • Demonstrate communication and active listening skills critical to support people in crisis
  • Apply good practice approaches when working alongside clients in crisis
  • Employ crisis intervention techniques to support the client through their crisis situation

Duration

This online training, including the activity workbook, will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. The workbook contains six activities.
