Esther Schwald, DVassist Chief Executive Officer, recently went on a whirlwind three-day trip to Kalgoorlie Boulder from the 2nd to the 4th August for the Diggers & Dealers event. Diggers & Dealers is Australia’s leading mining forum, with delegates including miners, explorers, brokers, bankers, investors, financiers and mining service industries from around the world. The event provides a unique opportunity for industry professionals to meet and network.
While in Kalgoorlie, Esther visited a number of programs that provide assistance to people experiencing Family and Domestic Violence in the Goldfields. These services welcomed Esther and were generous enough to share their stories about their FDV work in their community. Some services Esther visited included Finlay House – the Women’s Refuge, The Kalgoorlie Women’s Health Centre, Bega Garnbirringu Health Service and Mara Pirni Healing Place.
We loved learning so much about Kalgoorlie. The First Nations People of Kalgoorlie are the Wongutha people who share a strong connection to Kalgoorlie and the surrounding country, and the name Kalgoorlie is derived from the Wangai word, Karlkurla, meaning “Place of the silky pears”. Located in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia, the Kalgoorlie Boulder is situated 590 kilometres inland of Perth. Certainly a place rich in history, the Kalgoorlie Boulder is now Australia’s largest outback city with a population of more than 30,000 people.
