Share and Care Community Services – Mental Health Support Service

Provides non-clinical support to people with severe and/or persistent psychiatric illness to develop/maintain living and social skills.
 
This services also encourages the consumer to participate in community life and activities and decrease the burden of care for the carers. Consumers must provide a referral from the Wheatbelt Mental Health Team, GP, Psychiatrist or Psychologist.

Share and Care – Family and Domestic Violence Child Support

The Family and Domestic Violence Child Support service ensures that a trained child support worker is on site and will relieve the parent of care if she needs to attend appointments. 
The support may include outings with the parents’ permission, liaison with schools for enrollments, play therapy, referrals for mother and or child to a host of other agencies that may assist with the variety of needs the consumer presents with.
 
These services cover the Wheatbelt, and Upper Great Southern, and based in Northam and Narrogin.

Wheatbelt Mental Health Services

Wheatbelt Mental Health Service provides free, confidential, quality, community mental health care to people of all ages in the Coastal and Wheatbelt communities. The Wheatbelt Mental Health Service is a team of mental health professionals including a consultant psychiatrist, clinical psychologists, social workers, child and adolescent professionals and community mental health nurses.
Locally based, multi-disciplinary teams are located in Northam, Gingin, Merredin and Narrogin. Regular visits are made to outlying areas within the region to meet community needs. Outreach is supported by telephone consultation and videoconferencing. Clinical liaison is provided to hospitals within the region. Clinical programs include:
  • Aboriginal Mental Health Program (all ages)
  • Adult Mental Health Program (18-65 years)
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program (0-18 years)
  • Seniors Mental Health Program (65+ years)
  • Youth Mental Health Program (15-24 years)

Wheatbelt Community Legal Centre

Wheatbelt Community Legal Centre can assist you in providing advice, information and assistance in:

  • gaining a better understanding of the legal process involved in divorce and separation;
  • making arrangements for children following a separation ;
  • receiving advice about finances after a separation;
  • speaking to someone regarding mediation or family dispute resolution;
  • options you may have to resolve your matter without going to court. The Centre can provide you with advice and assistance regarding;
  • the process of a FVRO application;
  • how to make an initial application and affidavit and assess the likelihood of being granted an FVRO
  • options to settle the matter through negotiations with the respondent (person bound) such as Conduct Agreement Orders
  • how to maintain you and your children’s safety from family and domestic violence
Headquarters are in Northam however lawyers and tenant advocate offer regular outreach services to Narrogin, Merredin and Moora.

This program offers assistance to families who have experienced the loss of a loved one through suicide:

  • Assistance to families in the home with support services, caring for children whilst appointments are being attended
  • Assistance with travel and daily living costs if required
  • Assistance with referrals to free counselling (Psychologists), financial counselling and legal services
  • Referrals to other agencies that may assist with other needs
  • Assistance with Information
  • Other supports and information services as required

The program works with the client base towards obtaining and maintaining housing into the future.

Share and Care Community Services – Safe at Home

Safe at Home provides specialist workers to assess safety and support the needs of women and children to remain in their homes, where it is safe to do so after a Family and Domestic Violence incident or ongoing violence in the home.

Once a referral or WAPOL incident report is provided this service completes a comprehensive risk and safety assessment, security audit and planning to allow women to make an informed decision in relation to remaining in their home or to accessing crisis accommodation should the situation be unsafe. The service also provides links into other agencies. The service has the ability to access limited funds to provide increased safety at the home.

The Safe at Home staff will also assist with support to apply for a Family Violence Restraining Order and offer support during the court process. Outreach support is available across the Wheatbelt including Shire of Yilgarn to ensure ongoing support.

Share and Care Community Services – Homeless Support Service

This service is designed to assist those that are threatened with losing their homes due to financial difficulties, those who are homeless and need support to obtain and maintain long term housing and those who are finding it challenging to remain in one home for any extended amount of time.
 
This service networks closely with the Department of Housing, Emergency Relief services and Financial Counsellors, Supported Housing services through Avon Youth, our Men’s Lodge and other local agencies.

This program offers assistance to families who are the recipients of a current health care card who are in crisis with:

  • Assistance to families experiencing difficulty with back to school clothing, books or fee costs.
  • Assistance for families who are at risk of disconnection from essential service supply
  • Assistance to families for assistance with food and/or travel by either voucher or referral to other service outlets.
  • Assistance or referral to other services for clothing or bedding for families in crisis.
