Desert Blue Connect – Women’s Counselling

Confidential and individual counselling services for a variety of issues including:

Counselling is available on Wednesdays and is available to women at a reduced fee.

Midwest Allied Health

Allied Health services are provided throughout the Geraldton, Midwest, Murchison and Gascoyne Districts with a focus on prevention and early intervention, working on keeping people well, improving the health of the community and helping individuals who need treatment and care. Services provided include:
  • Education and practical information for individuals, families, other agencies and community groups (on topics such as diabetes, exercise, nutrition and children’s development;
  • Child development services – Team-based assessments and therapy services for children with developmental delay and/or disorders;
  • Therapy and clinical services for hospital inpatients and outpatients in the hospitals in the Midwest, Murchison and Gascoyne, as well as for community individuals and groups.
The Midwest Allied Health team consists of:

  • Speech pathologists;
  • Social workers;
  • Podiatrists;
  • Audiology;
  • Clinical psychologists;

Midwest Mental Health service – Adult and Children mental health

The Central West Mental health Service provides comprehensive assessment and treatment for people with mental health problems. The services include clinical programs such as
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health
  • Youth Mental Health
  • Aboriginal Mental Health
  • Adult Mental Health;
  • Seniors Mental Health.
Their preferred referral method is through your General Practitioner but their are other options such as:
  • Crisis and emergency services
  • Other health services
  • Community agencies

  • Private Psychiatrists or other doctors
  • Yourself
  • A relative, carer or friend.

Children and Youth Mental Health Support

HelpingMinds offers free and confidential counselling to young people who are supporting a family member or a friend living with mental health challenges, including:

  • Individual counselling appointments for young people aged 8-17;
  • In-school counselling for students aged 8-17;
  • Phone counselling for young people in regional and remote WA on 1800 811 747
  • Advocacy surrounding the mental health system
  • Peer support
  • Support groups and workshops

Carnarvon Sexual Assault Response Service

The service provides direct services to the target groups to deal effectively with the effects of the harm caused by child sexual abuse in families and communities (including trauma, guilt, pain, fear and other damaging personal and interpersonal effects), and to prevent child sexual abuse from recurring. This program focuses on supporting all Australians including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families living in the Gascoyne region who have been affected by the trauma of child sexual abuse, family domestic Violence /or family violence.

Victim Support and Child Witness Service

The Victim Support and Child Witness Service provides both the Victim Support Service and the Child Witness Service and is situated in regional Magistrates Court of Western Australia locations. The Victim support and Child Witness Service provides a voluntary and free service assisting:

  • Victims of crime;
  • Secondary victims of crime related death; and
  • Children under the age of 18 years of age who are to give evidence.
Services available include:
  • Counselling and support;
  • Accessing services such as counselling, legal, medical and other relevant services;
  • Information on the status of police investigations;
  • Information about ongoing court matters and preparing for court and in court support;
  • Preparing a child for giving evidence in court and providing in court support;
  • Help to write a victim impact statement;
  • Help with enquiries about your rights in the criminal justice system, including criminal injuries compensation claims.

Midwest Mental Health and Community Alcohol and Drug Service

The Midwest Mental Health and Community Alcohol and Drug Service provides assessment, treatment and advice to people with moderate to severe mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues. They also support carers, other local health services and other agencies that work with people experiencing mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues in various ways such:

  • Needle exchanges;
  • Individual and group counselling;
  • Referrals to detox and rehabilitation services;
  • Intervention programs;
  • Drug and alcohol education and awareness programs in the community

Gascoyne Women’s Refuge

The Gascoyne Women’s Refuge provides accommodation for women and children at risk of or experiencing homelessness due to domestic or family violence or other forms of crisis. The Refuge also offers services to assist with healing, treatment and legal recourse as required.
