Albany Public Library

The Library has 14 computers for public use. Access is free for a standard 30 minute session. Staff can offer limited assistance in using the computers and this is subject to demand.
The Library also offers free Wi-Fi access. Wi-Fi is available daily from 8:00am to 8:00pm. Users are limited to 2 hours or 500mb of data per session.

Albany Community Legal Centre

The Albany Community Legal Centre Inc is an independent, non-profit community based legal service, contracted by the Federal Government to deliver community legal services to the Lower Great Southern region of Western Australia.

One-off, free, confidential legal assistance is available to any person in the Great Southern region. Ongoing assistance is provided on a needs assessed basis.

Albany Youth Support Association – Albany Youth Outreach

Albany Youth Outreach provides early intervention and support to at-risk young people commencing secondary education, up to 18 years of age. With referrals accepted from partner agencies and individuals, the program provides:

  • Mentoring to enhance relationships with families and others
  • Referrals and support to access appropriate services
  • Support to establish connections to activities and the community
  • Advocacy and information
  • Support to actively and positively participate in Open Access arts activities

Priority is given to those with high support needs who are likely to have experienced multiple risks. The free and strictly confidential program is designed to prevent crises occurring in these young people’s lives.

Eligibility:

  • Young people aged between 12 and 18

Albany Community Care Centre – Men’s Shed

The ACCC provides services including the Men’s Shed program under the Commonwealth government’s Home and Community Care program.

The Men’s Shed hosts much more than woodwork – it’s a haven for blokes to enjoy a comfy chair, good company, a game of pool or maybe darts.

There’s tea and coffee on tap and a fridge to stock with cool drinks to go with the barbecue we’ll knock up for your lunch.

Aboriginal Legal Service of WA Albany

ALSWA is currently the largest community based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander legal organization in Australia. It provides legal aid services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout Western Australia in accordance with grant conditions imposed by the Commonwealth Department of the Attorney General. Services include:

Criminal Law: ALSWA criminal law staff make sure the criminal courts know about cultural matters that apply, such as communication styles and tribal punishment.

Family Law: ALSWA family law staff make sure courts that deal with family law and protection issues know about cultural matters that apply, such as communication styles, how children are raised, and the importance of children and family in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Civil Law and Human Rights: ALSWA provides legal advice in a wide range of civil law and human rights matters, including discrimination, compensation for injury, police complaints and wills. ALSWA also assists with enquires about the Stolen Generation and Stolen Wages.

Community Education: ALSWA’s Law and Advocacy Unit is funded to advise Government and mainstream organisations about law and justice issues that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in Western Australia.
