Bloodwood Tree – Yandeyarra Centrelink Services

Bloodwood Tree has trained and employed local community residents to deliver the service at Yandeyarra.

South Hedland Pilabara Community Legal Service – Financial Counselling

The Financial Counselling service is offered to both high and low income earners. It services to the people of the Pilbara from all four of our offices in Karratha, Roebourne, Hedland and Newman.

It is non-judgmental, confidential and free. Information, support and advocacy is provided to assist clients to address identified financial problems and manage financial situations more effectively.

PLCS Financial Counsellor’s assist with:

  • Helping to manage debts (rent, water, power, car loans etc.)
  • Mortgage Issues and negotiation due to financial hardship
  • Disputes with Creditors
  • Budget plans to assist with managing money more effectively
  • Information on consumer rights and obligations
  • Information on bankruptcy
  •  Accessing superannuation for hardship relief
  • Government agency assistance (Centrelink, Housing Authority etc.)
  • Information on concession and rebate entitlements
  • Referrals to government or non-government services
  • Mortgage Issues and negotiation due to financial hardship

Bloodwood Tree Association – Healthy Living Program

Healthy living Program: An intensive 4-day workshop that provides at-risk individuals and families with the tools and knowledge needed to achieve and maintain a healthy home (tenancy obligations, inspections, cleaning and maintaining a home), healthy family (family health, family first aid and conflict resolution) and healthy life (bill paying, budgeting and meal planning).

The workshops are hands-on and collaborate with local agencies to assist participants to stay in their home once tenancy has been obtained.

Hedland Accounting and Finance is a private accounting firm based in the Pilbara. Individuals have access to services for tax return, discussing your rental properties, capital gains tax query or other financial matters.

Australian Government – Services Australia

Support through payments and services while you are looking for work or doing approved studies to help you find and keep a job.

Services Australia – Crisis Payment

To get this you must:

  • be eligible for an income support payment from us
  • be in severe financial hardship
  • have an extreme life change. You can get it if you:
  • are experiencing family and domestic violence
  • get out after 14 days from prison or psychiatric confinement as a result of an offence
  • are a Humanitarian Entrant into Australia for the first time
  • go through a natural disaster not covered by the Disaster Recovery Payment
  • are in Australia when the event occurred, and when you submit your claim
  • are eligible for an income support payment.

Services Australia – Farm Household Allowance

A payment for farming families in financial hardship.

To get this you must:

  • be a farmer or partner of a farmer, who spends a major part of your time and capital, working on the farm
  • meet the income and assets test limits
  • meet mutual obligation requirements. To get Farm Household Allowance (FHA) you must meet all the following:
  • be a farmer or partner of a farmer
  • be 16 years or older
  • contribute labour and capital to an Australian farm, or are the partner of a farmer who does
  • have income and assets below certain amounts
  • have had less than 4 years of FHA in the specific 10-year period.

National Debt Hotline

National Debt Helpline is a not-for-profit service that helps people tackle their debt problems. Their financial counsellors offer a free, independent and confidential service.

Your Toolkit

Your Toolkit is a free comprehensive online financial toolkit that is designed to help women facing domestic and family violence and financial abuse on their journey to more independent, confident and safe lives. Their website includes information on:

  • Centrelink and myGov account and support payments
  • Tools for managing your own finances (including budgeting and saving)
  • Financial assistance for living costs
  • Understanding financial areas such tax, superannuation, credit and insurance

MoneySmart

ASIC’s MoneySmart website is for all Australians – young or old, rich or poor, investing or paying off debt.

They offer free, independent guidance. They have smart tips on dealing with the ups and downs of life:

  • losing your job
  • having a baby
  • divorce or separation
  • buying a home
  • losing your partner

WAConnect

WAConnect is an online directory where users can search for food relief, financial counsellors and emergency accomodation among other services.

No Interest Loan Scheme

No Interest Loans (NILS) provide individuals and families on low incomes with access to safe, fair and affordable credit.

Loans are available for essential goods and services such as fridges, washing machines, car repairs and medical procedures for up to $1,500. Repayments are set at an affordable amount over 12 to 18 months.

Eligibility:

  • Health Care Card/ Pension Card or earn less than $45 000 a year after tax ($60 000 for couples or people with dependants)
  • Lived at current or previous address for at least 3 months
  • Capacity to repay the loan

StepUp Loans

StepUp is a low interest loan for people on low incomes who have difficulty accessing credit from a bank. You can borrow from $800 – $3,000 with up to three years to pay it back. There are no fees. Loans can be used for items such as:

  •  Secondhand cars or repairs
  • White goods
  • Furniture
  • Computers
  • Vocational Education
  • Medical Expenses

*Loans cannot be used for cash, debt consolidation, holidays or bills
