If you are in a domestic and family violence crisis, below is a list of crisis services, including local police, domestic violence police units, ambulance services, local hospital services, and fire and emergency services. If you cannot find local crisis support services for your area, you can find a list of state and national support services at the bottom of this page.

Regional Alliance West – Tenancy

If you are living in a Housing Authority, or in a private rental situation, and are having problems with the tenancy, this service might be useful to you.

They can visit you in your home to talk about how to solve the problems and help you in fixing them. Workers will keep in touch with you over a few months to see how things are going.

They can also help if you are having difficulty in getting rental accommodation.

They can also assist people who are experiencing homelessness in gaining housing options either private rental, government housing or sharing.

STAY Short Term Accommodation for Youth

STAY provides safe, secure and affordable accommodation which includes:
  • Meals
  • Emotional support
  • Advocacy
  • Referral
  • Mediation
  • Learning new life skills
  • Linking into education
  • Access to longer-term housing
STAY is a crisis service for young people who are aged between 15-25 years who may be experiencing:
  • A personal crisis
  • Family conflict
  • Financial difficulties
  • Homeless

Desert Blue Connect – Chrysalis House

Chrysalis House Women’s Refuge provides safe and supported accommodation for women with or without children who are escaping family violence or are at risk of being homeless as a result of the crisis.

Services include:

  • Safe, secure crisis accommodation for up to three weeks
  • Development of safety plans
  • Practical and emotional assistance and support
  • Outreach support services
  • Information and advocacy
  • Referrals to other agencies
  • Links to housing, income, legal and medical services
Chrysalis House also provides services for children. A child support worker works with children to reduce the harmful effects of family violence, including the availability of crèche services. Chrysalis House can accommodate children and youth up to the age of 18 years with appropriate recreation activities available.

Bandat Horizon House

Bandat Horizon House provides stability and support for young people aged 16 to 22 years old to help them set and achieve their goals and independence. Their clients must be:
  • Homeless or at serious risk of homelessness
  • Aged 16 to 22 years old
  • Willing to work towards receiving a wage or obtaining Centrelink payments
  • Willing to contribute towards their share of rent and utilities – the cost of rent is means tested dependent on income to ensure affordability for all residents
  • Willing to participate in daily activities as agreed in their individual support, such as school, voluntary work, courses and counselling
  • Prepared to abide by the no-smoking rule
  • No current significant issues with alcohol and/or substance abuse.

Supported crisis accommodation for families who are experiencing unforeseen homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. Clients are assisted to access long term accommodation and appropriate support.

Mission Australia – Emergency Relief

Emergency relief helps people to address their immediate basic needs in times of financial crisis or hardship through material or financial aid (e.g. vouchers, clothes and food parcels). Support is offered in a way that maintains the dignity of individuals and families and encourages self-reliance. As well as financial and material support, Mission Australia also link people with services in the community to help them address the challenges that are affecting their financial wellbeing. Emergency Relief is available every Tuesday morning in Carnarvon by appointment only. Please telephone at 8am on the day Emergency Relief is available to arrange an appointment.

Sexual Assault Resource Centre

The Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC) is the 24-hour emergency sexual assault (rape crisis) service in metropolitan Perth.
 
SARC provides:
• Emergency services including medical, forensic and counselling support, up to 2 weeks after a sexual assault
• Counselling services for recent and past sexual assaults, rape and child sexual abuse
• Advice for health professionals about to see a patient following a sexual assault 
• Education and training for professionals 
 
SARC services are available to:
• People of all genders
• People 13 years of age and older 
• People affected by sexual assault, including rape and sexual abuse 
• Family members and partners of a person who has experienced sexual violence

Youth Crisis and Emergency Services

The department of child protection and family support provide and fund a range of child safety and family support services throughout the state including mandatory reporting investigations and training, Working with Children Checks, fostering and adoption services, counselling and outreach programs, crisis accommodation, homelessness services, and emergency services support.

Financial Counselling Network – Emergency Relief and Food Access Service

There are a number of community organisations throughout the state that provide emergency relief to people experiencing financial hardship, in the form of food vouchers, bill payment support and more. Emergency Relief assistance is available to support you if you:

  • are struggling to put food on the table
  • are facing overdue bills
  • have used  your savings to pay for daily expenses
  • have experienced a reduction in income

You may be eligible for emergency relief even if you’re not receiving Centrelink income support

Western Australia Police Force

If life is at threat, call 000 immediately. If you need to report a breach of a Family Violence Order, or require Police attendance, please call 131 444. Questions you may be asked:

  • The address where the incident is taking place.
  • Your name and telephone number.
  • The offender’s name, age and date of birth.
  • Are there any weapons involved? Are you able to describe them?
  • Are you the victim? If no, what’s the victim’s name?
If the incident is occurring while you are talking to the operator, stay on the telephone. Your safety is paramount to us.
 
Police can also issue a Police Order, help you to get a Restraining Order, find a refuge or alternative accommodation. They can also refer you to support agencies such as Crisis Care, counselling services and legal services such as the Legal Aid Domestic Violence Legal Unit. The police will take all measures possible to ensure the victim and children’s welfare and safety is not compromised. They are also committed to ensuring that the perpetrators are held accountable.

Pets in Crisis

The Pets in Crisis program is a free service providing a temporary home for pets whose owners are experiencing immediate family and domestic violence. Pets are placed in a loving foster home while their owner seeks refuge or temporary accommodation of their own.
The service is available via a referral from a caseworker only. Pets in Crisis is open to all domestic pets, including cats, dogs and pocket pets (rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, etc.) for up to three months.
The scheme is not for emergency situations and the Pets in Crisis team is only available during normal business hours.

Online Restraining Order Application

A restraining order is designed to prevent acts of family or personal violence. Having a restraining order allows the police to intervene on behalf of the protected person if the conditions are breached.
The online restraining order application service has been introduced for people seeking the protection of a restraining order to lodge their application without having to attend a court registry.
Police officers have the ability to issue a police order for up to 72 hours in certain circumstances. This order is a temporary restraining order that allows the protected person the ability to make an application to a court during normal business hours. Please contact the Western Australia Police Force on 131 444 if you require police assistance or 000 in an emergency.

Crisis Care Helpline

Crisis Care is a telephone information and counselling service for people in crisis needing urgent help. Call the Crisis Care Helpline when:

  • You need someone to help sort out a serious problem.
  • You are concerned about the wellbeing of a child.
  • You are escaping domestic violence and need help.
  • You are homeless.

The Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline is a state wide 24 hour service. This service provides support and counselling for women experiencing family and domestic violence. This includes:

  • Phone counselling
  • Information and advice
  • Referral to local advocacy, support services, and safe accommodation if required
  • Support in escaping situations of family and domestic violence

The Men’s Domestic Violence Helpline is a state wide 24 hour service. This service provides counselling for men who are concerned about becoming violent or abusive. The service can provide:

  • telephone counselling
  • information and referral to ongoing face to face services if required

Information and support is also available for men who have experienced family and domestic violence

1800RESPECT is a national sexual assualt and domestic violence counselling service.

1800RESPECT provide support and counselling for:

  • People experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, sexual assault, domestic or family violence
  • Their friends and family
  • Workers and professionals supporting someone experiencing, or at risk of experiencing sexual assault, domestic or family violence.

They can be contacted by phone or online chat, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

WA Poisons Information Centre

The WA Poisons Information Centre (WAPIC) is an emergency phone service to the states of Western Australia and South Australia and the Northern Territory providing management advice in cases of suspected poisoning and known poisonings. Advice is also provided on drug information and poisoning prevention.
